FOOTBALL Reading School U16 v Brakenhale COUNTY CUP Round 1
FOOTBALL Reading SchoolU16 v Brakenhale COUNTY CUP Round 1,
Reading School 2 - Brakenhale 2 (3 - 1 penalties)
This week saw the U16s play in the first round of the county cup, having trained well in the build-up to the big game; they were perhaps unprepared for the quality of Brakenhale who started very strongly.
From the kick off the play seemed in favour of Brakenhale who were awarded a penalty early on; this was fortunately missed giving Reading School a lifeline. By half time Reading School were only 2-0 down thanks to goalkeeper Josh Wallace keeping the team in the game with some crucial saves.
At half time a number of changes and substitutions were made to be more direct and attacking. The second half saw Reading School as a different side with greater physicality and quicker passing causing problems for the Brakenhale defence. Reading School’s 1st goal saw Leuan Galvin getting the ball through from midfield to allow James Williams to slot the ball home putting Reading School back in the game. The second goal came in the dying moments of normal time seeing some great pressure from Hadi Daoud forcing a defensive mistake which allowed James Williams to grab the equaliser goal and send the game into extra-time.
With nothing separating the teams the score stood a 2-2 at the end of extra time so the game was destined for penalties. Reading School were faultless in their spot kicks with Matt Rudd, Joe Holland and James Williams hitting the target but it was man of the match Josh Wallace who ensured progress to the next round with two fantastic saves.
RS played with a positive attitude and resilience with every member of the squad playing a crucial role in the result. Well done to Brakenhale who contributed to a superb contest.
