Annual Fund
Reading School has a rich tradition of providing a wide range of extra-curricular activities for boys, largely funded through donations made to the Annual Fund.
These activities provide an important balance to the challenging academic programme that the school provides, and help our boys to develop the social, leadership and collaborative skills that can’t always be taught in the classroom.
The Annual Fund regularly meets some or all of the costs of activities such as: -
- Sports, particularly transport and hospitality for home and away games.
- Clubs and after school activities, including Chess, Combined Cadet Force, Drama, Science, Young Enterprise, Christian Union, Science Club, Philosophy, Music, and Public Speaking. The Fund supports the cost of materials, transport, and any specialist coaching that can’t be provided by staff.
- Public events like the Inter-house Music competition, Junior and Senior Prize-giving, Commemoration and Remembrance Services strengthen boys’ sense of belonging, and appreciation of the school’s heritage and traditions. We keep these costs as low as possible, but inevitably expenses such as venue hire and the printing are necessary.
You can find out more by reading the 2011-12 Annual Fund Activities Report.
