Reading School Book Festival 2017
The Reading School Book Festival will take place at the end of February/beginning of March 2017, to coincide with World Book Day on March 2nd. Activities will include author talks and workshops, book sales and signings, D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything And Read) and competitions.
Authors confirmed to date include:
Award winning psychological author, Jon Robinson who will deliver a talk on dystopian fiction to all Y10 and Y11 on Monday 27th of February. He will also run a creative writing workshop with a group of Y8/9 pupils. Jon’s novel “Nowhere” has been shortlisted for the Bolton and Calderdale children’s book awards, winning the Calderdale Children’s Fiction Award 2014, Hampshire Independent Schools book award and Reading Libraries Battle of the Books award. In 2014 he was nominated for the Carnegie Medal. Jon has also won the Calderdale Discover Learning children’s fiction award 2014.
Six-figure deal fantasy author, Taran Matharu, will deliver a creative writing workshop to the whole of year 7 on Tuesday 28th of February and year 8 Friday 3rd of March. Taran recently signed a four-book, six-figure deal with his publisher, Hodder Children’s Books. Taran began to write ‘Summoner’ in November 2013 at the age of 22, taking part in ‘Nanowrimo 2013’. Thanks to Wattpad.com, its popularity dramatically increased, reaching over 3 million reads in less than six months. After being featured by NBC News, Taran decided to launch his professional writing career and has never looked back.
Scholastic Book Sale
There will be a Scholastic Book Sale in the Learning Resources Centre from the 22nd to the 24th of February. The school LRC receives a commission for all books sold and World Book Day vouchers can be redeemed against the cost of books for sale at £2.99 or more.
