Weather Update - Sunday 10th December 2017

Reading School will be open as normal on Monday 11 December 2017

Please wrap up warm and take care when travelling to and from school.

Be vigilant on the school site in order to keep safe.

According to BBC Weather www.bbc.co.uk/weather there will be light snow falling in the Reading area from around 3am to around 10am.

The Estates Team supported by staff volunteers will do their utmost to ensure that the Reading School site is clear and safe. We are looking forward to utilising our snow plough and have ordered ample quantities of salt to enable the site to be gritted. In addition, the Met Office has issued a Yellow warning of ice between 4am and 11am on Monday 11 December. The Chief Forecaster’s assessment is shown in a warning impact matrix. www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/warnings  ‘Where snow has fallen through Sunday icy stretches are likely to form quite widely with some temporary melting of snow and then refreezing overnight.’ As ice is expected to form on some surfaces on Sunday night and into Monday morning some injuries are possible from slips and falls on icy surfaces. There will be probably be some icy patches on untreated roads and cycle paths.

Also with sleet forecast by BBC Weather on Monday 11 December between 11am and 2pm it is possible that with the melting snow areas of ice may occur on the school site.

Although the Estates Team will endeavour to make the site safe it is important that all students, staff and visitors take even more care than normal on steps, on the Terrace, the Walled Car Park, the area around the Phillip Mitchell Science Centre and whilst walking up the drive for instance. We will be gritting areas but it is also important that individuals take care and are aware of increased risk of falls if care is not taken in times of inclement weather. Looking slightly further ahead we would like to make you aware that a sharp frost is forecast in the early hours of Tuesday morning 12 December and would ask students and adults on the school site to take especial care.

Please note that the Boarders’ Theatre trip will take place as planned on Monday 11 December.

Also the Carol Concert will take place as scheduled on Monday 11 December 2017.
