Ali Sparkes Launches the Berkshire Book Award 2018 with a Big Plop!

170 pupils from six schools across Berkshire celebrated the launch of the Berkshire Book Award 2018 at Reading School with a talk from award winning author Ali Sparkes.  Travelling back in time with the aid of her homemade whirling time machine, Ali charted her colourful career with the aid of lots of audience participation.

Highlights included a look at her prototype picture book that records your very own plop sound and the strange head altering side effect of her whirling time machine!  After the talk pupils had the opportunity to buy books and have their photo taken with the author.  They could also start nominating books for the Award, with lots of enthusiastic  chatter about all the good books published during the past year.

Our thanks go to the Berkshire Book Award Committee for the opportunity to host such an exciting event.

The Berkshire Book Award was launched in 2004 for the best, recently published book written for young people.  This Award is the first of its kind in Berkshire and differs from similar Award schemes by enabling young people to both nominate the titles and select the winner. Thousands of young people from over 90 Berkshire schools and public libraries have taken part.
