1200 masks donated to the Royal Berkshire Hospital

Reading School student, Sam Ou and his family have very generously donated 1200 masks to the Royal Berkshire Hospital, in addition to 200 masks to the School, to assist those working with children of keyworkers and other staff undertaking duties at the School.

Over recent weeks it has been reported that there is a shortage of protective equipment for those on the front line in the fight against Covid-19.   The masks supplied are disposable protective masks with verification to Standard EN14683 related to Directive(s):93/42/EEC. The mask has three layers, it is designed for civil use (not for surgical use), it can filter 95% of non-oil particles in the air such as dust, smoke and bacterial, should be changed every 4 hours.  Sam is hopeful that these masks are useful for hospital workers such as catering staff, porters, cleaners, and shop assistants.

Sam Ou (10L) approached staff and said:

“I would like to donate 1200 facemasks to the Royal Berkshire Hospital to help combat the lack of protective equipment available for the doctors and nurses, who work tirelessly around the clock to try to combat COVID-19. I want to do my part for the community and the small donation will help protect health workers working in such dangerous conditions.”

Mr Robson, Headmaster said:

“One of our core values is ‘Community’ and it is most heartening to see our values in action through our pupils.   We are most grateful for the inspirational support of Sam and his family.  Thank you to Sam and his family, and indeed to all members of the Reading School family who are demonstrating compassion and commitment at this time of crisis.  We all need to continue to pull together in these difficult times. ”

We have been overwhelmed with the outpouring of the generosity from both pupils, parents, alumni and the whole Reading School community.

Please give as little or as much as you can, all donations go some way to supporting those that most need it during this crisis and beyond.
