Reading School's Summer Football Camp 2020

We were delighted to see 40 of our Year 7 and 8 students return for Reading School’s Summer Football Camp today on the School Field.  Organised and led by Mr N Harvey (Teacher of PE) and Mr T Evans (Assistant Head), together with student leadership coaches.

The coronavirus pandemic and subsequent lockdown is an unprecedented situation and it is hard to measure the full impact on children and young people’s mental health and wellbeing.

The lockdown experience will have been very varied. For some, it will mostly have been a safe and enjoyable time. For others, it will have been challenging.  Whilst we are used to supporting students through challenges that they face in life – the current situation will amplify those situations many times over.

The Summer Camp has been created to assist in bringing our students back into school in a safe and secure way, whilst allowing them to enjoy some activities and to reconnect with their peers.   We are placing an emphasis on keeping them safe, with the additional safety measures in place, in line with government guidance to help promote the safe transition into their next academic year.  Well done to all the boys that signed up and participated in the first day of three.

The boys have had an enjoyable fun day of sports including: ball manipulation activities; Small-sided practices and games ranging from 2v2 up to 5v5 and competitions such as crossbar challenge and penalty-shoot outs, to name a few.   We have seen great teamwork, discipline and perseverance on the School Field.

Thank you to our student leadership coaches for their passion, collaboration and leadership.

We look forward to seeing you all again next week.
