A Level Results – August 2021

Well done to the Class of 2021

Having demonstrated character and resilience, Reading School’s Class of 2021 are to be congratulated on having attained exceptional examination results.  These results reflect the quality of work undertaken by our pupils and teachers who have worked hard to compile persuasive evidence to underpin calculated grades submitted.  This cohort of 183 candidates, the largest ever, have shown flexibility, exceptional understanding and a real sense of community.

Despite navigating challenging circumstances over the last two years, our students have successfully secured places at some of the UK's top universities, including University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, Imperial College London, University College London and London School of Economics and University of Warwick to name a few, to read a broad range of subjects including Classics, Computer Science, Economics, Engineering, History, Languages, Law, Mathematics, Medicine and Music.  We are immensely proud of you all.

Overall, over 96% of all entries were awarded A*-B grades, with over 84% of grades at A*-A and 45% at A*.

Mr A M Robson (Headmaster) said:

"As I welcomed students this morning, I stood extremely proud of all our talented A-Level students and listened to how they expressed their gratitude and relief.   They have demonstrated academic excellence, flexibility and resilience as we have collectively continued to navigate unchartered waters.  Their adaptability and remarkable perseverance are key attributes to their future success.   None of this would have been possible without the support of our dedicated Sixth Form team, led by Mr A Lloyd (Head of Sixth Form), Mr D Whitehorn (Transition Lead), Miss Pickering (Lead on Medical Applications), our Sixth Form Tutors and Academic Tutors, as well as the continued support and guidance from our parents and the dedicated support offered by numerous Old Redingensians.

Thank you to Dr Rev’d C Evans, (Deputy Headmaster) and Mrs S Jahn (Exams Officer) for your tremendous efforts in the background and indeed I thank all the staff at Reading School for their professionalism and commitment to our students.

In addition, thank you to the Governing Body, led by Mr Robert Kenwrick for their strategic leadership and direction.

I wish all our newest members as Old Redingensians. the very best for the future, as they embark on the next chapter.”

Mr A LIoyd, (Head of Sixth Form and Assistant Head) praised the sixth formers:

‘Our students have coped magnificently with the extraordinary circumstances they have faced this year. I am immensely proud of them for the way they have dealt with all of the uncertainty and know that had they been given the opportunity to sit their exams in the normal manner, they would have achieved exceptional results. As it is, they deserve tremendous credit for all of the successes they have achieved through this unusual process. We know they will go on to make hugely positive contributions to wherever they go next.’

We wish the Class of 2021 well for their future, having attained a plethora of places at a range of exceptional universities including Oxford and Cambridge in a variety of subjects.

They have undoubtedly achieved academic excellence alongside becoming young people of substance.
