GCSE Results 2021 - Congratulations
Reading School students are celebrating an excellent set of GCSE examination results in 2021 and our students have continued to perform at a high level despite the disruption caused by the pandemic, over the last 18 months.
Our students are encouraged to be intellectually curious and creative and to approach new opportunities and challenges with confidence and resilience. These GCSE results reflect the quality of hard work undertaken by students over the last three years, led by teachers who have worked extremely hard to compile substantial evidence in recent months.
96.1% of all grades were awarded 9-7 with 54.25% at the highly coveted grade 9. Overall, 83.5% of grades achieved were 9-8.
Over 95% of the students achieved the English Baccalaureate and 100% of grades achieved were 9-5. 94.6% of entries in English were awarded 9-7. 100% of entries in Biology, Chemistry, History, Latin and Physics were grades 9-7. Whilst 93.2% of Mathematics students attained grades 9-8 at GCSE. In addition, of the 110 candidates entered in the Additional Mathematics qualification 87.3% achieved grades A-B. Our Year 11 AS Philosophers gained 81.8% A-B grades. Well done to all our students.
We have seen standout academic attainment from Abu-Bakr A, Ansh B, Andres M-B, Ved C, Jonathan C, Neel D, Jai G, Aman G, Aryan H-K, Sida L, Daniyal V, Rishabh L, Muhammad S and Harvey Z, as they all achieved straight 9s.
Crucially, all our Year 11 cohort have sought to achieve the best they can. In challenging circumstances our students have demonstrated perseverance, courage and authenticity.
In addition to achieving outstanding academic results, we continue to encourage our students to develop their intellect by grasping opportunities which stretch them further and make meaningful contributions towards co-curricular activities and opportunities beyond the classroom. This has been demonstrated by students such as Sida L who has won various national competitions across a range of disciplines and Dhruv G through his commitment to creating a platform, which provides community support to a range of schools. We endeavour to grow a strong sense of social responsibility and belonging to and serving our community, through our Lead, Learn and Serve initiatives.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to mention all the students individually who have fulfilled their potential, but needless to say we are extremely proud of them all.
Parmeet S (Year 11) said:
“I am very proud of my results in Maths and Physics where I achieved a 9, and in Additional Maths where I got an A. I am going to be studying Maths, Further Maths and Economics at A-level, as I am hoping to pursue a career in economics or finance perhaps as a Financial Analyst.
I would like to thank all my teachers especially my form tutor, Mr Barraclough and Mr Stromdale as they've all helped me to get such good results. I would also like to thank my parents and of course my friends for helping me through this.”
Jamie G (Year 11) commented:
“I am buzzing with my results and hoping to now study Maths, Economics, Geography and PE for A-level. In particular, I would like to thank Mr Owen for being such a positive form teacher.”
Guy S (Year 11) said:
“I’d like to thank all my teachers but especially Mrs Humphries for helping me through Spanish and Mr Ling.”
Rishi D (Year 11W) commented:
“I am very happy with my results and proud of the hard work I put in. I’m extremely grateful and thankful to my teachers for helping and supporting all the students during the pandemic. I’m taking Maths, Further Maths, Computer Science and Physics for A-level and hope to pursue a career in the computer science industry in the future. I now look forward to my Sixth Form years with Reading School.”
Nirbhay K (Year 11 Boarder) said:
“I’m really proud of my grades having achieved grades from 9-7 and an A in Additional Maths, especially during an uncertain time because of the pandemic. I intend to pursue a career in Medicine studying at a good university to become a doctor.
Due to the pandemic, it has been tough for all students because we don’t know what we were working towards, but we had a series of assessments ultimately giving us fair grades. I’m pleased with my results. I want to thank all the teachers and staff for the support they gave to me in such a difficult time for all.”
Meet N (Year 11) commented:
“I was very pleased to receive my results today (two 8s and nine 9s). It’s been a tough year for all of us and I’d like to thank all my teachers for their continued efforts during the pandemic which have helped me accomplish these results. I hope to study Medicine at university and hopefully these grades will put me in good stead towards my goal.”
Jacob R (Year 11) said:
"I am grateful for my results with six 9s, two 8s and two 7s and a B in Additional Maths. I would like to say a massive thank you to all the teachers for going the extra mil and getting us through the exams during Covid. I am really looking forward to returning to Reading School for my A Levels as the support has been brilliant."
Mr A M Robson (Headmaster) commented:
“Reading School is proud of its long and distinguished history, but its contemporary primary focus is on the needs of its students and preparing them for the world of the future. Our students have demonstrated resilience and fortitude over the last 18 months. Today’s results clearly give our students a firm foundation on which to build further success in the Sixth Form. We celebrate not only their fine examination results, but also their commitment to sport, House activities and competitions volunteering, as well as their drive to develop a community ethos and sense of belonging as a part of the Reading School family. There is substantial evidence that this cohort not only value academic standards, but also care for people and the community.
I would like to thank the students for their dedication, commitment and resolve. In addition, the important role of parents and governors alongside the professionalism of staff must be acknowledged including those in the background that continuously support behind the scenes. You all play an integral part in supporting our students.
We look forward to seeing all our students in September, alongside the strong cohort of new students we are welcoming to Reading School at the beginning of the 2021-2022 Academic year.”

“I look forward to welcoming all our students who will be enrolling to our Sixth Form, both current students and those who will be joining us from other schools. To those students who will be moving on, I sincerely hope that this is not goodbye; you will forever be a part of the Reading School family.”
Mr D McGall (Assistant Head) commented:
“Our students have aimed high during what has been a demanding academic year and should be congratulated on their achievements today. Going into Sixth Form to pursue A-level study, as the prelude to higher education, will require self-discipline, self-motivation and self-organisation and we are here to support, encourage and provide a stimulating environment for all our students to continue to aim high and achieve to the best of their abilities.
Moving forwards, as well as perfecting academic ability, we encourage our students to develop their character and leadership by being involved in House activities, mentoring younger students either at Reading School or through strong established links with primary schools through our Future Stories programme, as well as other community action projects.
You have all demonstrated you are resilient and can overcome challenges and we are most proud of all your efforts during what has been a difficult period during this pandemic.”
