The Big Band Ball 2018

Reading School hosted its most glamorous event of the school calendar: The Big Band Ball

What with it being Mr Meehan’s final ball a lot was expected and the Reading School Big Band failed to disappoint. The evening began with background music from students in Year’s 12 and 13 and a delicious curry which certainly got people in the mood for dancing.

The main event saw classics from the Reading School repertoire such as ‘Zoot Suit Riot’ and ‘Ain’t that a Kick in the Head’ which got the audience up on their feet and dancing away. Singers included pupils from the band (such as Jack Lawrence singing ‘Fly me to the Moon’ and Ewan Miller with ‘Can’t Take My Eyes off of You’), other guest singers included Mrs Geraghty-Green with ‘Fever’.  The boys truly outdid themselves and the evening was a stunning success.

The highlight of the evening, however, has to go to Mr Richard Meehan for his glorious rendition of ‘New York, New York’; he will be sorely missed next year.

Special thanks go to the Reading School Music Department, the Reading School Big Band, the Friends of Music, all our volunteers who helped the evening run smoothly, and of course everyone who came.
