Mathematics Inspire Lecture October 2018
Simon Singh completed a PhD in particle physics at CERN before joining the BBC, working on programmes such as Horizon and Tomorrow’s World. After winning a BAFTA for his documentary about Fermat’s Last Theorem, Simon went on to write a No.1 bestselling book on the same subject. He has since written books about cryptography, cosmology and The Simpsons.
Reading School will be hosting two Mathematics Inspire Lectures taking place on Monday 29 October 2018 presented by Simon Singh MBE.
Year 12 Pupils ONLY
“Fermat’s Last Theorem” at 14:35 in Big School- COMPULSORY to all YEAR 12 pupils to attend. Simon Singh, who completed a PhD in particle physics at CERN before joining the BBC, talks about his book BAFTA winning Fermat’s Last Theorem.
In order for pupils to benefit from this lecture, the Head of Mathematics, Dr J Matthews has made it compulsory for all Year 12 mathematics pupils to attend and be excused from lessons (Periods 6 Week B on Monday after half term).
Year 7 to 10 pupils ONLY - staff, parents and alumni are invited but priority will be given to pupils
“The Simpsons and their Mathematical Secrets” at 15:30 to 16.45 in Big School. Open to all Year 7-10 pupils as well as staff, parents and alumni.
Simon will also talk about his most recent book which explores hidden mathematical themes in the Simpsons as well as free online maths website.
