Air Ambulance Charity Concert- Friday 8th March 2019
The 8th Annual Air Ambulance Charity Concert took place on Friday 8th March 2019, in the Big School hall.
Ewan M (13KY) said:
“It saw the participation of over 50 students from Reading School and Kendrick School, and, as is the case every year, sought to push the musical quality of the event to new levels. This year’s organisers were Edwin H (13JM) and Kitty G (Year13), for whom the event has been an essential social and musical outlet for most of their secondary school lives. The evening saw high-quality performances from a massed orchestra, choir, concert band and string orchestra, on-top of multiple chamber and solo performances.
Such a massive undertaking necessitates all the support possible, and numerous participants deserve credit for their huge contributions. The objective of the event rests in the name, and this year over £1,300 was raised for the Air Ambulance Charity, not including the proceeds from the upcoming Kendrick Spring Concert, at which the combined choir will perform once more in aid of the fantastic cause.
The critical accident to Reading School boy, Toby D which inspired the concert in its first year, is no longer remembered by anyone still attending secondary education. However, the support for the charity which saved Toby’s life is shared by all who take part, year-on-year. For us current year 13s who have run the event both this year and last (although a different pair has taken up the role of director) the concert has been a fantastic opportunity for leadership, although musical life comes with many of these chances. More than anything, it is an opportunity for us to strive for musical excellence, something which we all treasure greatly, and hopefully inspire others with the final outcome.”
Mr A M Robson, Headmaster commented:
“I am exceptionally proud of all the students from both Reading School and Kendrick School. The annual Air Ambulance Charity Concert is an outstanding example of student leadership, organisation and collaboration skills, demonstrated whilst showcasing musical talent. Whilst raising money for an extremely worthy cause, Thames Valley Air Ambulance which has been supported for 7 years. Thames Valley Air Ambulance provides a life-saving service across Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire.”
