Alex Baker Igniting Writing at Reading School
Alex Baker from Igniting Writing, ran one of his creative writing activities Thursday afternoon at Reading School and came to ignite our writing!
Alex led a science fiction themed creative writing workshop open to all years after school on day four of Book Week 2020.
Alex Baker, in collaboration with Wokingham Library, runs a creative writing group called Igniting Writing for 11-18 year-olds. The group aims to bring together young aspiring writers and help develop their storytelling and creative writing skills in a fun, relaxed environment.
Pupils were given plotlines at random and were given time to explore the themes during the workshop, with plenty of feedback from Alex:
“It was great and it let me use my full imagination.”
“I thought that it was interesting and it has got me thinking about an idea for a book.”
“I thought it was good and I learnt about writing sci-fi. In fact, I enjoyed it so much, I have carried on writing the story I started in the workshop.”
Alex Baker also commented:
“I was really impressed by both the imagination and focus that the pupils showed with their writing. Our topic of science-fiction is all about exploring new horizons and everyone did a great job at using their plotline drawn at random from a hat, as a springboard to build a full story around it.”
