OR Ewan Millar (2012-2019) wins BBC Young Musician Woodwind Category Final

Yesterday evening’s show saw Ewan perform the works of Marcello, Peter Facer, Schumann & Jeffery Agrell. He will now progress to the semi-final with the other category winners to compete for a place in the Grand Final later this year.

Highlights of the BBC Young Musician woodwind final, which was recorded pre-lockdown at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff, were broadcast on BBC Four yesterday evening. Ewan is the second semi-finalist to be announced as part of the 2020 edition of the contest, after pianist Thomas Luke was announced as the keyboard category winner on Sunday 3 May.

The Reading School community has been fortunate to witness many of Ewan’s performances at House Music Competitions through his school life.

The BBC Young Musician Semi-Final and Grand Final are currently scheduled for broadcast in the autumn, along with the Final of BBC Young Jazz Musician 2020, which will be staged as part of the EFG London Jazz Festival in November.

Launched in 1978, the BBC Young Musician of the Year competition has long history of launching the careers of many exceptional British classical musicians. Now into its fifth decade, BBC Young Musician is the talent show that has stood the test of time. This latest instalment of the category finals will inspire audiences by providing a showcase for the UK’s most talented young classical performers.

Truly inspirational, Ewan is not only academically bright but also musically gifted and we are enormously proud of his achievements. Congratulations to Ewan and his family.
