Sixth Form Boarding

We are eager to welcome new students to the school in Year 12. In a typical year, new students make up around half of our cohort and we very much appreciate the vibrancy and perspective that is added by these new arrivals.

Weekly boarding in the Sixth Form provides our students with the perfect opportunity to gain independence, self-motivation and academic discipline, skills which they can build upon and then utilise to ensure a seamless transition into university life.

Sixth Form boarders all have their own bedrooms, including study space and they benefit from access to the local fitness gym, senior football club, Sixth Form Common Rooms and their own senior kitchens, where they will be able to learn to cook under the guidance of staff.

Boarders are consistently the best young leaders and team players in the school. They are amongst those who participate most in sports, music and enrichment activities, and they achieve outstanding academic results.

Last year, boarders outperformed day students in their A-level results. Boarders achieved 77% A*-A results, versus 72.3% for the whole year group and they went on to study a range of exceptional courses at university, including Medicine at Kings College as well as Physics at Kings College; Aeronautical Engineering at Imperial as well as Mathematics at Imperial; History at Warwick.

Boarding in Sixth Form is a welcoming space and a stepping stone to university and life beyond school where young men flourish.

Hear from some of our Sixth Form Boarders:

What do our students think?

"As a new Year 12 student coming into the school, the incredibly welcoming and supportive boarding community has helped me ease through the transition and integration into a new environment. I have since taken up a leadership role of the Clubs and Competitions Prefect as a way to inspire and give back to the house. Boarding offers many more opportunities of this nature for seniors to contribute, such as mentoring schemes and student voice representatives. It is a great platform for older pupils to learn how to serve as a role model."

"Since Year 7, boarding has been quite an experience. I have stepped leaps and bounds in my time-management and organisation, due to the increased independence and the generous support of the boarding staff. For this reason, I am flourishing and improving every day in my academics. I am truly grateful for the opportunity to lead as a boarding prefect, for the readily-accessible facilities, and for the vast amounts of free-time I have learnt to use carefully."

"Joining boarding as a Year 12 new to the school has made my transition into the new environment much more enjoyable. Without having to worry about travel to and from school, I have been able to integrate into all facets of school life here more easily; I have been able to enjoy sports such as rugby and athletics without the travel time for training and fixtures and have also been able to make new friends with the other boys in the house which has helped me to settle in to the wider school."
