    Sustainability

Sustainability is crucial for our school community, as our decisions will impact deeply our and future students’ lives.

Through initiatives like the clothes swap, and sorting waste in bins across the school, we are helping to reduce our impact on the planet by reusing and recycling more. It is our hope that this desire to change for the better will persist within the school and its community.

Our Eco-Code, Our School, Our world, Our responsibility - sets the standard for our behaviour and encourages us to make positive, lasting change for the future

Our sustainability journey officially started in September 2025 with lots of big ideas. These were split into 5 project areas: Kitchen, Biodiversity, Estates, Tech and Curriculum, with Boarding and Travel added in 2026. Staff and students could sign up to an area that interested them the most and put these big ideas into practice. The staff leading each project are really passionate about sustainability and welcome new students to join their projects any time. Use the menu on the right to explore the different projects to see what we’re doing and how you can get involved.

Sustainability at Reading School is growing, and we’re all excited to be taking positive actions that will make our school experience better. We’ll be updating the website every half-term as we move through our journey, hoping to inform our reading School family and inspire others. Follow us on Instagram (@reading_school_sustainability) for more regular updates and reads to make you think!

We have been inspired by those around us and are supported by our Reading University Climate Ambassador and the Lets go Zero team in our planning for the future.
