As of 2025, the UK government guidelines require all education settings to nominate a sustainability lead and implement a Climate Action Plan (CAP). The Department for Education (DfE) expects these plans to be living, strategic documents that evolve over time to help schools reduce their environmental footprint and adapt to climate change.

These follow four key pillars:

Decarbonisation & Net Zero: Tracking carbon footprints and taking steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (e.g., boosting energy efficiency, switching to renewable energy sources).

Climate Education & Green Careers: Integrating sustainability into the curriculum and equipping students with the green skills needed for future industries.

Biodiversity & Nature: Protecting and enhancing the natural environment within the school grounds and its surrounding community.

Adaptation & Resilience: Preparing your estate for climate impacts like extreme heat or heavy rainfall (e.g., improved ventilation, flood resilience).

Our sustainability webpages outline everything we have done as a school from September 2025. Our Climate Action Plan below outlines our ambitious targets for 2026-2027 to help us improve our social, economic and environmental sustainability practices across the school. This will be updated at the end of each half term.
