Today we celebrated Reading School's very first Staff and Boarders Carol Service in our historic Chapel - a brand-new tradition that brought together music, reflection and community spirit. Our choirs, musicians and readers filled the Chapel with timeless carols and Lessons, creating a beautifully festive atmosphere for staff and boarders alike. Reading School has been named Secondary School of the Year in the South East for Academic Excellence 2026 in The Sunday Times Parent Power Guide. The school is delighted to receive this award, which recognises the remarkable education young people receive at the school and the character-driven focus that underpins students' outstanding academic achievement. The award crowns a landmark year for Reading School. Throughout 2025, the school opened its gates to thousands of neighbours, families and alumni for a programme of anniversary events, including a free one-day Community Carnival, a Grand Reunion which brought together current pupils and more than a thousand Old Redingensians, a series of Open Days for prospective families, several public lectures open to the public, and a moving Commemoration Day which featured a Royal Visit by HRH The Duke of Edinburgh. These public celebrations and outreach activities are part of the school's commitment to combining academic rigour with social impact and civic engagement. "We are humbled by this recognition," said Revd Dr Chris Evans, Headmaster of Reading School. "It is an award that reflects the work of a whole community of students, staff, parents, volunteers, partners and Old Redingensians who have given generously of their time, talent and conviction. Though our school is 900 years old, we have been vividly reminded that its true strength lies not in its antiquity, but its impact upon society. We give thanks for all that has gone before, and recommit ourselves to making a difference in the world in the years ahead." Non-Uniform Day for Alzheimer's Society Tuesday 16 December! This Christmas season, our students are coming together to make a difference! Led by JiJi W (13 JTe) and supported by our Charity Prefects Vashisht K, Yadveer G, Benjamin H and Vivaan C we're hosting a Non-Uniform Day to raise funds for the Alzheimer's Society, helping create a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. This event also echoes Jim Jones's inspiring 7-day trek along the South West Coastal Path, completed in memory of his and his partner's fathers, Alan Jones and Alan Cartwright, both lost to Alzheimer's. Bringing together Old Redingensians from across generations, the event offered a rare opportunity to see former students perform live alongside current pupils in a shared celebration of Reading School’s rich musical heritage.
The OR House Music Competition 2025
Reading School’s first-ever Giving Day - a 36-hour fundraising event held in March 2025 - kicked off the 900th Anniversary calendar of special events, uniting the School’s community and raising over £150,000 towards the School’s exciting redevelopment plans.

According to ORA (Old Redingensian Association) Archivist, Mr Ken Brown, Reading School’s House Elocution competition has been running since 1927. In recent times the competition has been adapted to make it more suitable for the 21st Century by turning it into ‘House Eisteddfod’. The student-led House Competition features 40 performances celebrating music, poetry, creative writing, and performance.
