Project Curriculum

We are making great progress in embedding sustainability across the curriculum. After an initial audit identified how sustainability is currently taught within each department, they developed three sustainability targets to work on throughout the current academic year. In bringing staff together to work towards common sustainability goals, there was a strong enthusiasm for applying sustainability across the wide range of subjects being taught. A follow-up survey will be conducted towards the end of the academic year to evaluate how successfully these targets have been implemented in practice.

Beyond the curriculum, sustainability is being promoted through a range of wider school initiatives. In our electives, we take inspiration from the Kew Endeavour activities and build on the expertise of ecologist Miss Scott and climate scientist, Dr Young.

We are actively seeking external speakers on sustainability and have already hosted a speaker from IBM who delivered a talk on sustainability in business, with further opportunities being explored. If you work in the field of sustainability and would like to inspire our students by giving a talk or workshop, please contact Dr Kate Young (kyoung@reading-school.co.uk

House assemblies have been delivered to launch environmental sustainability across the school to develop our culture of sustainability. This is enhanced through a variety of tutor resources to integrate sustainability into the pastoral programme, including a focus on green careers.

Student engagement is further supported through regular posts of articles and thought-provoking current events on the school’s sustainability Instagram account, which we would encourage all students to follow @reading_school_sustainability.
