TSL International Student Competition 2026 – Sustainability Culture
In March 2026, 3 Reading Students entered the Trust For Sustainable Living – International Student Competition 2026. This year's theme of “Sustainability Culture” explores how we can integrate sustainable values and practices into everyday life. Students were encouraged to interpret the theme in any creative way that they choose. This was the entry from Karthik, Abhiram and Maulik who were in Year 11 when submitted.

Green stories competition 2026 - The epiphany
Over the Summer we invited all students to submit a story about transformation, when a moment of epiphany causes one or more characters to change for the greener. The realisation didn’t have to explicitly mention climate or the environment as long as it inspired behaviours with environmental implications (e.g. food, travel, consumption, gardening, cleaning, etc.), or the story could focus on the benefits of any greener alternative (e.g. environment, health, status, spirit, soul). Thank you to all our entries, we have attached some of them below. Congratulations to our 2026 winner – Ayden Y, Year 9 for his entry, Little by little.
See below for Green Stories Competion 2026.
Awards
Our inaugural Reading School sustainability award for Junior Prize Giving was given to Abir in Year 8. This awarded for his dedication to Project Biodiversity, competition entries, writing for the website and for getting fully involved in assemblies and a number of trips and planning sessions. Thank you so much Abir!
"Sustainability has a deeper meaning than just acknowledging what is happening in our environment. It can shape our future by planting trees and taking care of our environment, but it's also about raising awareness. To me, sustainability is a large group of people working together to build a greener future, so we need you. Environmental Sustainability at Reading School is taking small steps to a bigger picture. Whether this be by accommodating trips to Swinley Forest or taking climate action at the University of Reading, my favourite moments have been what we as a Reading School Sustainability community have done in Geography Clubs to collaborate on making the Earth a better place. This summer, take those small steps by doing an Earth Hour, where you don't use energy for a certain time or make a small bug hotel in your garden, because it starts with you. Thank you!"
